In the spring of 2020, a retired director of the Deaf Ministry in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, Deacon Tom Smith invited Father Tom Coughlin to replace him as a chaplain for the Catholic Deaf Ministry in Newark, NJ.
Father Tom accepted his offer and moved to St. John’s Church in Newark, NJ with some of his seminarians to begin their ministry to the Catholic Deaf community in northern New Jersey.
We now serve in many dioceses: Joliet, IL; Brooklyn, NY; Newark, NJ; Cincinnati, OH; Old Forge, NY; Bridgeport, CT and Port Henry, NY. The Dominican Missionaries community is blessed to have a new outstanding Office Administrative assistant, Jessica Spartano of Utica, New York.
Jessica came to us earlier in the year, offering to give us her support and talents to manage donations and Mass cards offerings in the computer system. In the past 30 years, Father Tom handled everything in his office, taking care of donations and sending out Mass cards whenever asked.
Since Father Tom was hired to work as a full-time Registered Nurse in a group home in Brooklyn, NY in April, 2020 to support the seminarians, Father Tom found himself needing help with the office management and Jessica was the solution.
Jessica, a retired Postal worker and a mother of three sons who lives in Utica, New York offered her free time to handle incoming mails and to manage the database of Mass offerings, donations and accounting.
Jessica graduated from St. Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo, NY with Father Tom in 1967 and obtained BSW degree in Social Work from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
